Marco Simoncelli, born in Rome in 1988, is a passionate photojournalist, video producer, and radio journalist, focusing strongly on Sub-Saharan Africa. After completing his university studies in Literature and Journalism, he specialized in the history and geopolitical evolution of the African continent. To hone his skills further, Marco pursued additional studies in photography and post-production.
With over a decade of experience, Marco has shared his expertise with various news agencies and monthly newsrooms in Italy. As an independent professional, he made the transition to become an freelence reporter over 10 years ago.
In recent years, his work has delved into the connections between armed insurgencies, the climate crisis, land grabbing, and migration in the Sahel. His reportages and photos have been featured in various international agencies and media outlets.
In 2020, he co-founded FADA Collective with fellow professionals, forming an association of freelance reporters working across media and borders. Together, they focus on producing deeply reported public interest stories, providing insights into pressing issues that transcend geographical boundaries.
Based first in Maputo, then in Dakar and now in Addis Ababa, he extensively covered news events and crafted multimedia photo projects addressing political and social issues, with a specific emphasis on conflicts, humanitarian crises, migrations, and environmental topics throughout the African continent, primarily in West Africa, the Sahel, Horn of Africa and Southern Africa.
